Dubai Municipality has announced the deployment of a technology-driven beach safety system that combines aquatic rescue robotics with aerial water-rescue drones.

The initiative reflects a shift towards proactive, AI-enabled safety solutions that enhance protection, response speed, and overall beach experience for residents and visitors throughout the year.

At the centre of this system is the aquatic rescue robot. The remote-controlled, self-propelled rescue device operates at speeds up to 5 times faster than traditional lifeguard swimming rescues, with a range of up to 1km within line of sight and a towing capacity of up to 500kg  The robot allows lifeguards to reach swimmers in distress rapidly, while minimising physical risk during the initial rescue phase.

Complementing the system, Dubai Public Beaches has introduced the water rescue drone as an aerial support tool that enhances situational awareness and rescue coordination. Often described as a ‘flying lifebuoy’, the drone can deploy quickly over water, land directly on the sea surface, and provide immediate buoyancy support to individuals in distress.

Equipped with a live-feed camera, the drone delivers real-time visuals to lifeguard teams, enabling faster incident detection, accurate risk assessment, and more effective coordination of rescue operations.

Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality said, “Dubai Municipality continues to advance a proactive, technology-led approach to public safety. The integration of the aquatic rescue robot with the water rescue drone represents a significant step forward in how coastal safety is delivered, combining speed, intelligence, and operational precision. These solutions enhance protection for beach users, while reducing risk to lifeguards, and reflect Dubai’s commitment to applying innovation and artificial intelligence in service of quality of life.”

He added, “Our objective is to ensure that Dubai’s beaches set global benchmarks for safety, readiness, and visitor confidence. By investing in smart rescue technologies and continuously upgrading our safety ecosystem, Dubai Municipality is reinforcing its role in shaping future-ready public spaces that place people, wellbeing, and experience at the centre.”

The Hussain Sajwani-DAMAC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of DAMAC Group, said it marked Ramadan with community outreach initiatives across Dubai and beyond, placing construction workers, families and vulnerable groups at the centre of its efforts during the Holy Month.

At the start of Ramadan, the Hussain Sajwani-DAMAC Foundation (HSDF) announced US 27.2mn donation to the ‘Edge of Life’, a humanitarian campaign launched by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to rescue 5m children from hunger worldwide.

Alongside DAMAC’s wider philanthropic commitments during the Holy Month, were several local initiatives. DAMAC said it partnered with Dubai Charity Association to support the wider community with iftars at the Al Salam Mosque in Al Barsha.

Every day throughout Ramadan, more than 2,000 people received meal boxes through an initiative dedicated to supporting the surrounding community. DAMAC employee volunteers also joined the effort on the ground, helping with packing, distribution, and sharing in the meal.

In collaboration with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), DAMAC employee volunteers distributed Iftar meal boxes to thousands of workers at major project sites. The initiative was designed to bring Ramadan directly to the people helping build the city, many of whom are spending the month away from their families.

Hussain Sajwani, Founder and Chairman of the DAMAC Group said, Across our construction sites and communities are thousands of people whose hard work helps shape Dubai every day. Taking the time to meet them and express our gratitude during Ramadan is important to us. It reflects the respect we have for their dignity and for the role they play in Dubai’s continued progress. It is a privilege and honour for DAMAC to continue supporting the UAE community at this time.”

DAMAC has also strengthened its local community efforts through its collaboration with the Dubai Club for People of Determination, Al Noor, Omniyat, Awladuna and Rashid Centres through student sponsorships, rehabilitation support, and community-facing programmes for People of Determination. This is aligned with DAMAC’s wider commitment to inclusion and diversity in the UAE’s Year of the Family.
